  • Description:
VITALITY is a strategic project focused on innovation, digitalization, and sustainability to support the diffused economy in Central Italy. It aims to create a synergistic ecosystem that enhances the well-being and quality of life in living and working environments, promoting sustainable products and processes, and driving digital transformation. The project addresses major societal challenges such as demographic changes, economic crises, climate change, and energy vulnerability by strengthening high-growth industrial sectors and promoting social innovation.
UNIVPM leads Spoke 5, which focuses on sustainable buildings, Active & Assisted Living, eco-sustainable products, and sustainable manufacturing. Additionally, UNIVPM contributes to Spoke 3 with activities in food safety, novel food development, and consumer acceptance studies, and to Spoke 10 with research on lipid-based nanocarriers, green nanomedicine, and smart hydrogels for biotech applications.

  • Objectives:
The VITALITY project aims to foster innovation, digital transformation, and sustainability to support the growth of the diffused economy in Central Italy. The main objective is to create an integrated and collaborative ecosystem that promotes knowledge generation, best practices, and impactful solutions for sustainable living and working environments. The project targets key challenges such as demographic change, climate crisis, economic instability, and energy vulnerability. Through the activities of Spoke 5, VITALITY seeks to enhance people-centric sustainable buildings, Active & Assisted Living solutions, eco-sustainable products, and sustainable manufacturing for the living environment industry. In Spoke 3, the project focuses on innovative food safety solutions, novel food development, and consumer acceptance of functional and sustainable foods. In Spoke 10, the research aims to develop advanced biomaterials, smart hydrogels, and nanostructured lipid carriers for biotechnology and pharmaceutical applications, supporting both digital and green transitions.

  • Application Contexts:
The VITALITY project operates within key application contexts that address societal, industrial, and environmental challenges in Central Italy. It focuses on the development of sustainable and digitally advanced living and working environments, promoting people-centric solutions that improve quality of life. In the field of Active & Assisted Living, VITALITY supports the creation of technologies and services that enable independent living and well-being for aging populations. In the food sector, the project explores the development of functional foods, edible coatings, and consumer-accepted novel foods, with special attention to sustainability and food safety. In biotechnology and nanomedicine, VITALITY develops lipid-based nanocarriers, smart hydrogels, and eco-sustainable materials for advanced drug delivery and biomedical applications. The project also supports sustainable manufacturing practices and the eco-design of products and processes that align with the digital and green transitions outlined in the Next Generation EU framework.

  • Expected Results:
The VITALITY project is expected to generate significant advancements in sustainable living and working environments, supporting Central Italy’s transition towards digitalization and eco-friendly practices. Key expected results include the development of innovative, people-centered sustainable buildings, solutions for Active & Assisted Living, and eco-sustainable products for the living environment. In the food sector, the project aims to create functional foods, sustainable coatings, and novel food products accepted by consumers, contributing to food safety and resource valorization. In biotechnology, VITALITY will deliver advanced biomaterials, including lipid-based nanocarriers and smart hydrogels for pharmaceutical and biotechnological applications. Additionally, the project will contribute to strengthening sustainable manufacturing processes and promoting the adoption of best practices across industries. Overall, VITALITY will foster knowledge transfer, technological innovation, and social impact across the involved regions.
