UNIVPM Unit Responsible, Prof. Andrea Bonci

  • Keywords:
Test bench, electric vehicles, hybrid vehicles

  • Description:
The TANDEM project ushers in a new idea of test benches for vehicles with electric, hybrid and hydrogen powertrains, aimed specifically at sustainable mobility.
Its highly innovative features, which make it possible to generate not only a new product but also a new operating methodology, define TANDEM as digital test bench. The difference between the two terms is not just lexical but substantial, as can be seen from the features of the equipment.. TANDEM presents itself as a system composed of various sections: roller bench, mechatronic section, electronic section: management of bus signals and dialogue between the vehicle under test and the control system, software section: management of test routines, acquisition and processing of output data, interface with the operator. Added to these is the harvesting module: TANDEM recovers the kinetic energy produced during testing phases involving braking, transforming it into electrical energy that is stored in storage batteries and intended for use on other loads or on TANDEM itself.

  • Objectives:
TANDEM, born from a strategic vision of the next mobility market, wants to represent an innovative class of modular and scalable test stations for sustainable mobility capable of perform multi-functional and multipurpose testing for vehicles with not endothermic engines.
The scope of use to be achieved by the research and development process is broad and diverse
diversified: electric vehicles, hybrid and hydrogen-powered vehicles, commercial vehicles, quadricycles, motorbikes, e-bikes. In terms of scalability and modularity, TANDEM can be configured as a test station for the electric motor alone or for significant parts of the vehicle.

  • Application Contexts:
Electric vehicles, hybrid and hydrogen-powered vehicles, commercial vehicles, quadricycles, motorbikes, e-bikes.

  • Expected Results:
A test station for the electric motor alone or for significant parts of the vehicle.

  • Achivied Results:
A test station for the electric motor alone or for significant parts of the vehicle.
