Surface Electromyography Signal Processing | |
Description Electromyography (EMG) refers to the collective electric signal from muscles, which is controlled by the nervous system and produced during muscle contraction. The goal of this research area is the improvement of classic approaches and the development of novel techniques for surface EMG processing in the domain of motion analysis to characterize and quantify neuromotor-system behavior, in order to provide useful information to different fields, such as clinics, sports, and ergonomics. Main methodological approaches of the present research are filtering, correlation analysis, cross-talk analysis, time-frequency analysis, muscular-contraction detection. Main fields of application are muscular co-contraction and synergies, maturation of gait, neurological disorders such as cerebral palsy, Parkinson's disease, and diabetic neuropathy, and injuries in sports, such as anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries and tendinopathy. |
