Entrepreneurship is the lifeblood of business. It can also be said that entreprenreuship is the lifeblood of all organizations and of society in general. For this reason one of the main aim of group and of the Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (C2I) is to investigate the factors affecting the entrepreneurial propensity of people and the role of entrepreneurship in generating innovation in firms and in the society.
Research activity in this area deals with the following topics: the entrepreneurial propensity of individuals (e.g. student entrepreneurship, women entrepreneurship), academic entrepreneurship and spin-offs, factors affecting growth and performances of innovative start-ups (e.g. technological alliances, M&A), entrepreneurial finance (e.g. Venture Capital)
The research group is actively engaged also in research and activities related to university technology transfer, specifically in the areas of univeristy-industry relations, academic entrepreneurhsip and spin-offs, patenting. The Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship has been working on all these areas and specifically on academic entrepreneurship and spin-offs. The CII is also involved in projects aimed at strenghtening the ability of universities to fulfill the ‘third mission’ and on the efficacy of university-firms relations.
Another related research interest of the group is public procurement, that has increasingly become a central theme of European innovation policy. Public Demand for Innovation can improve public services steering technological change towards socially shared objectives. Although innovation-related public procurements have long been in the government’s toolbox, their use in new ways to support social challenges remains relatively unexplored.
